What is Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a recognised surgical specialty of both dentistry and medicine, encompassing the surgical and related treatment of diseases, injuries and deformities involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the head, face, mouth, teeth, gums, jaws, and neck.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have both medical and dental training which makes them uniquely placed to provide surgical treatment for patients with a wide range of problems in the face and jaw.
